The 2022 UAM Citizens' Debate, which seeks Incheon's strategy for the commercialization of urban air transportation (UAM), was held at the auditorium of the Aerospace Industries Convergence Institute on the afternoon of October 20.

Hosted by the Gyeongin Broadcasting Aviation News Center and sponsored by Incheon City, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Incheon Tourism Organization, and Incheon International Airport Corporation, Moon Woo-chun, director of the Advanced Aerospace Technology Institute, presented the theme of "Incheon's UAM Policy Direction."

Choi Ki-young, vice president of Inha University, led the discussion, Choi Jong-sik, head of the Business Solution Center of the Aerospace Industries Convergence Center, discussed "Is Incheon ready for commercialization of urban aviation mobility?", "The International Competitiveness of Incheon, the Best City for UAM Demonstration" by Lee Yong-chang, a city council member of the Incheon Metropolitan City Council. The new chairman of the Incheon Aviation Policy Public-Private Cooperation Council discussed the theme of "Creating a Demonstration City with Citizens" and AstroX CEO Jeon Doo-hwan discussed the theme of "Logistics Innovation, Water Mobility."

In the presentation, Moon Woo-chun, head of the Advanced Aerospace Technology Institute, stressed the need for a new three-dimensional transportation system centered on transportation between cities and cities, and various technologies and information cooperation between UAM leading countries, cities, and institutions.

The UAM industry will contribute to upgrading Incheon's root industry technology and structure and creating jobs for young and professional silver workers through the city's air transportation system, Ahn Kwang-ho, head of Incheon's aviation division, said.

"Preparing an opportunity to improve citizens' understanding and acceptability" for the commercialization of UAM

"In the discussion, Choi Jong-sik, head of the center, paid attention to the growth potential of the UAM industry, and called for various deregulation efforts to lead the market, establish a commercialization foundation, and interest in the space industry.

Incheon City Council member Lee Yong-chang explained the role of the Incheon City Council for UAM commercialization in various fields such as legislation, budget, and policy, and Shin Sae-chul, chairman of the Incheon Aviation Policy Public-Private Cooperation Council, stressed the need to simultaneously promote various programs to improve citizens' acceptance under the Incheon UAM demonstration and specialized city development plan. "Before UAM, the tourism industry and logistics service ecosystem using water PAV can be quickly established," said Jeon Doo-hwan, CEO of AstroX.

On that day, at the debate Kwon Hyuk-chul, CEO of Gyeongin Broadcasting, made an opening speech on behalf of the host company, and Incheon Mayor Yoo Jung-bok and National Assemblyman Heo Jong-sik (Gap, Michuhol-gu, Dong-gu, Incheon, Land Transportation Committee). The Democratic Party of Korea) delivered a congratulatory speech, and Yoo Chang-kyung, head of the Aerospace Industries Convergence Institute, gave a welcoming speech.

Meanwhile, regarding the debate, Ahn Kwang-ho, head of the Incheon Metropolitan City Air Division, stressed "improving 'citizen acceptance' for commercialization of UAM."

Ahn Kwang-ho said in a phone call with "Incheon Guerrilla News, "There are many important and urgent tasks such as technology development, policy foundation, and city acceptance in the commercialization of the future UAM industry, but I think citizens' acceptance is important above all." "In that sense, today's debate was an important place to increase citizens' understanding and acceptance of UAM," he added.

"In the future, our city of Incheon will take the lead in commercializing UAM as a 'UAM leading city' and improve the quality of citizens' life," he said.
